It is sakura season again! For me, the reappearance of the cherry blossoms reminds me that I have come full circle. Last year, I was new to Japan when I enjoyed the sakura. And now I've been here more than a year!
It has been very cold this year, but I have enjoyed hanami (cherry blossom viewing) anyway! This weekend I went to moonlight hanami (and then karaoke) and then enjoyed in the day the next afternoon. Moonlight was in Hikarigaoka Park (lovely!), but we traveled to Kichijoji for the afternoon and visited Inokashira Park. It was fantastic! Crowded (but not nearly so bad as Ueno Park was when I went there last year), but we were still able to find a nice place to have our picnic near the pond. So pretty! I will miss the sakura when they go (very soon! limited time offer!), but I look forward to meeting them again next spring!
The picture is from Ikebukuro last weekend (we weren't in a park, but we grabbed drinks from the conbini and had random sidewalk hanami), and the video is from Inokashira Park. Please enjoy!
That picture is gorgeous - very nice!! I enjoyed the 34 second sakura tour too - what a lovely sight!! Was that a swan boat I saw on the water? It looked like everyone was enjoying their hanami!! :-)
ReplyDeleteWow, now we have blossoming cherry trees here in the Northwest, but I guess I didn't know how HUGE (in other words, TALL!) the trees were in Japan! That is pretty amazing, how tall and big those trees are. They must be old? I also liked the swan boat on the lake. :)
ReplyDeleteThe people in the swan boats need to beware! There is a temple dedicated to a vengeful love goddess in the park, and it is said that any couples who venture out onto the pond are cursed to break up.
ReplyDeleteAnd, yeah, the cherry trees here are pretty massive!
